Fast, comfortable and a little bit addictive – a motor yacht charter in Croatia is the easiest way to turn a week of holiday into a movie you will replay in your head all winter. From Split, Trogir, Zadar or Dubrovnik you can be on your first island in less than an hour, sundowner in hand, engines cooling, anchor quietly set in a sheltered bay.
Sailing is beautiful, but sometimes you simply want to point the bow at the horizon, push the throttles forward and be there. That is where motor yachts shine. With a good plan, a reliable boat and a local Croatian skipper on your side, you can visit more islands, more bays and more waterfront restaurants in one week than most sailing crews manage in two.
The Croatian coast is perfect for this style of holiday. Distances between islands are short, fuel stops are easy, and marinas are safe and well organised. Combine this with warm water, clear anchorages and historic coastal towns and you have one of the best motor yacht playgrounds in the Mediterranean.
On a planing motor yacht you can cruise at 20–25 knots and still sit comfortably in the cockpit with a coffee. That means a hop from Split to Hvar takes around an hour, and even longer legs – for example from Trogir to Vis – become an easy morning run. While catamarans and sailboats lean with the wind, your motor yacht stays level, with air-conditioning, stabilisers on many models, and generous deck space for sunbathing.
Modern motor yachts are built around social life. Large cockpits, flybridges with loungers, hydraulic swim platforms and wide side decks make it easy for everyone to find their favourite corner. Cabins are private and well insulated, and en-suite bathrooms mean you are not queuing for a shower after swimming. If you pair your boat with a professional skipper or full crew, you can focus 100% on your people and let the team handle everything else.

The good news is that almost the entire Croatian coast is suitable for motor yachts. Your choice of starting harbour mostly depends on flight connections and what kind of atmosphere you want on your holiday.
Most of our guests start their motor yacht charter in Split or Trogir. From here you have easy access to Brač, Hvar, Vis, Šolta and the Pakleni islands – a perfect mix of famous nightlife spots and quiet bays. If you want variety, this is the best region: one day fine dining in Hvar town, next day crystal water in a small bay on Šolta where you are almost alone.
Trogir is a little calmer than Split, with a beautiful old town just a short walk from the marina. For families or first-time visitors we often recommend Trogir as a starting point – parking is easier, provisioning is simple, and you are still only 20–30 minutes from the airport.
If you are dreaming about walls, history and deep blue water, Dubrovnik is your natural base. A motor yacht from Dubrovnik lets you combine the Elafiti islands, Mljet National Park and often a quick hop across to Korčula or even up towards Hvar, depending on fuel range and weather. The distances are longer than in central Dalmatia, which makes a fast, comfortable motor yacht a real advantage.
Further north, Zadar and Šibenik open the door to the Kornati archipelago – a maze of rocky islands, quiet anchorages and small stone houses. On a motor yacht you can glide through this landscape in total silence at low speed, then open the throttles for a fast run back towards the mainland in the evening. If you enjoy nature, photography and quiet coves more than nightlife, this area will feel like paradise.
In our motor yacht charter Croatia – luxury & speed boats collection you will find everything from sport cruisers for a couple up to 30-metre crewed yachts for extended families. The right choice depends on how many people are travelling with you, how fast you want to cruise and what level of service you want on board.
Smaller sport cruisers are perfect if you want to move quickly, sleep in marinas and spend most of your time outside. They usually offer one or two cabins, a convertible saloon and plenty of open cockpit space. In Croatia they are often used for short breaks or flexible island-hopping where you do not need a large crew or many separate cabins.
Flybridge motor yachts in the 40–60 ft range are the backbone of many Croatian charter fleets. They offer three or four cabins, a comfortable saloon, a proper galley and that magic extra deck on top – the flybridge. From up there you can enjoy 360° views while cruising at 18–22 knots, with shade, music and a cold drink. For most families this is the sweet spot between performance, comfort and price.
If you want a fully serviced experience, choose a luxury motor yacht or superyacht with professional crew. These yachts include captain, deckhand, hostess and often a chef. Cabins feel like a boutique hotel, and the toy list – jet skis, Seabobs, SUPs, snorkelling gear – can keep both adults and kids happy for hours. This type of yacht is ideal if you want maximum privacy, flexible routing and restaurant-level food on board.
Croatia offers all three models – bareboat, skippered and fully crewed motor yacht charters. The right choice depends on your licence, experience and how relaxed you want your week to be.
Bareboat is an option if you have a valid skipper licence, VHF certificate and recent experience on similar size motor yachts. Remember that tight harbours, wind, current and busy summer traffic require quick, calm decisions. If you are not 100% comfortable handling the boat in all situations, a professional skipper will make your holiday much safer and more relaxed.
A skippered charter is the sweet spot for many guests. You get the freedom and privacy of your own yacht, but with a Croatian skipper who knows every bay, fuel dock and restaurant. They handle navigation, mooring and local communication, while you enjoy the ride. You are still very welcome at the helm – most skippers are happy to let you drive under their supervision when conditions are good.
On a fully crewed yacht the experience becomes closer to a small, private boutique hotel. A hostess or steward takes care of cabins and snacks, and on larger yachts a chef prepares fresh local food every day. You decide the rhythm – late breakfast, lunchtime swimming, sunset aperitif – and the crew quietly makes it all happen behind the scenes.
To give you a feeling for what is possible on a motor yacht charter in Croatia, here is a classic 7-day loop from Split or Trogir. On a fast, comfortable boat you can easily adjust it to your preferences.
Easy shakedown cruise to a nearby bay on Šolta. Afternoon swim, first night on anchor or in a quiet village.
Morning departure towards Hvar town. Lunch stop in a bay on Brač, swim, then a short hop to the Pakleni islands. Evening in Hvar – cocktails and old town walk.
Run across to Vis island. Depending on weather you can visit the Blue Cave from Komiža or Biševo, or simply enjoy slow cruising around the south side of the island.
Longer cruise to Korčula town, often called “small Dubrovnik”. With a motor yacht you arrive quickly, giving you more time to explore the old streets and taste local wines.
Flexible day: either quiet bays around Pelješac peninsula or Mljet National Park. Anchor in a calm cove and enjoy the nature.
Fast return towards Brač island. Stop in Bol or one of the quieter northern bays. Last big swim day.
Short final leg back to your base. Refuel, handover, and slow goodbye coffee with your skipper.
Prices for motor yacht charter Croatia vary strongly with size, age and level of service. As a very rough guide, smaller sport cruisers start around 3,000–4,500 € per week in low season, while family flybridge yachts can range between 6,000 and 12,000 € per week. Luxury crewed motor yachts and superyachts easily go above 25,000 € per week plus expenses.
On top of the base charter fee you should plan for fuel, mooring fees, food and drinks, and, where applicable, crew gratuities. Your SkipperCity consultant will always prepare a clear cost estimate before you confirm your booking so there are no surprises later.
Every yacht has slightly different conditions, but in general the base price includes the boat with standard equipment, insurance and basic dinghy. Obligatory extras (for example transit log, final cleaning, outboard engine for the tender) are usually listed separately in the price list.
Fuel is always paid according to actual consumption – this is important for motor yachts, because running at high speed uses more fuel. Your skipper will help you find a comfortable balance between speed and economy. Marina and mooring fees depend on the size of the yacht and the marina category. National park entrances, private moorings and restaurant buoys are usually paid on the spot.
If you book a skippered or crewed yacht, skipper and crew fees are either included in the charter price or listed as a mandatory extra per day. Gratuities are not included but are customary if you are happy with the service, usually 5–15% of the charter fee depending on yacht category.
SkipperCity is a Croatian-owned agency with years of real experience on the water. We know the local fleets, the good marinas and the reliable partners – and we are honest when a boat or route is not the right match for you. Our goal is simple: that you come back from your holiday rested, happy and ready to book the next one.
Because our portfolio includes not only motor yachts but also catamarans, sailboats, power catamarans and luxury yachts, we can recommend the right boat type for your group, not just the one that happens to be available.
You also get full support before, during and after your charter. From the first enquiry through our Yacht Charter Croatia page to planning your route, organising transfers and helping with any small questions – we are one WhatsApp message away.
Booking your motor yacht is straightforward, especially if you already have travel dates. The easiest starting point is our online boat search: view available motor yachts in Croatia. Select Croatia as destination, choose “Motor yacht” as boat type, set your dates and group size, and you will immediately see available options.
If you prefer a more guided approach, simply send us a short message with your dates, preferred region and budget. We will prepare a personalised shortlist, including options from our wider yacht fleet in Croatia and, when relevant, suggest alternatives such as catamarans or sailboats.
Once you choose your yacht, we place a short option with the charter company so you have time to organise flights and discuss details with your group. After you confirm, a deposit is paid to secure the booking. Closer to departure we help you with crew lists, provisioning tips and final route ideas so you arrive in Croatia relaxed and ready to enjoy.
For bareboat motor yacht charter you need a valid skipper licence recognised by the Croatian authorities plus a VHF certificate. If you do not have these, or if your experience on similar boats is limited, we strongly recommend booking a professional skipper.
Fuel consumption depends on the size of the yacht and your cruising speed. As a very rough guide, smaller sport cruisers might use 40–80 litres per hour at cruising speed, while larger flybridge yachts can use more. Your skipper and our team will help you estimate expected fuel costs for your planned route before you book.
Yes – this is one of the main advantages of a motor yacht. In a week you can easily combine several islands and regions, for example Šolta, Brač, Hvar, Vis and Korčula, without feeling rushed. We still recommend a balanced plan with some slower days and time for swimming, not just long transfers.
Most modern motor yachts are very family-friendly, with high side decks, enclosed cockpits and plenty of shade. We can arrange safety nets and children’s life jackets on request. Your skipper will also adapt the route to calm conditions as much as possible.
The main season runs from late May to early October. July and August are the warmest and busiest months, while June and September offer slightly cooler temperatures, fewer crowds and often better availability. For motor yachts, shoulder season months are especially pleasant – the sea is still warm, and marinas are less crowded.
Absolutely. Many guests spend a few nights in Split, Trogir or Dubrovnik before or after their charter. We can help you coordinate transfer times, recommend reliable hotels or apartments and suggest how to combine your land stay with the best possible route on the water.
