When guests tell me they want a comfortable catamaran for island hopping in Croatia, Lagoon is usually the first brand they mention. Over the last decade Lagoon catamarans have become one of the most common multihulls in Croatian yacht charter, from compact 40-footers to large family boats with five or six cabins.

On this page I will walk you through what Lagoon catamarans feel like in real life, which models you will see most often in the Adriatic, and how to choose the right Lagoon for your crew, route and budget. You can always open every Lagoon lying in a Croatian marina via Search by Brand – add your dates to see which are free – or browse similar options on the main Catamarans page.

Why Sail a Lagoon Catamaran in Croatia

Lagoon builds catamarans for people who value space and comfort as much as sailing. Wide cockpits, safe walkarounds and bright saloons work perfectly with the Croatian way of cruising: short daily legs, lazy lunches at anchor, swimming off the stern and long evenings in quiet bays or lively marinas.

Because Lagoon is so popular, you will find a large choice of models and base marinas in Croatia. That means more flexibility on dates and prices, easier matching of cabin layouts and a good supply of both bareboat and skippered or crewed options.

Lagoon Design – Space, Comfort and Easy Handling

When you step aboard a Lagoon, the first thing you notice is how much usable space there is. The cockpit and saloon connect into one level, with large windows that keep the inside bright even on cloudy days. Wide transoms make it easy to board the dinghy or help children in and out of the water.

From a skipper’s point of view, Lagoon catamarans are designed to be easy to handle in typical Adriatic conditions. Twin engines help with manoeuvring in narrow marina berths, and the rig is set up for relaxed coastal sailing rather than racing. For more experienced sailors, a Lagoon offers enough sail area to enjoy good speeds without demanding constant trimming.

The Lagoon range in Croatia covers everything from compact three-cabin boats to large five- or six-cabin multihulls. Availability changes from year to year, but you will almost always find these core models among the boats in Croatian marinas:

  • Lagoon 40 – ideal for smaller families or two couples who want a modern catamaran without going too big.
  • Lagoon 42 – one of the most popular models in the Adriatic; very comfortable for 3–4 couples or a family with friends.
  • Lagoon 46 – more volume, bigger cockpit and flybridge, often chosen by larger groups or guests who want extra comfort. The Lagoon 450 and the newer Lagoon 43 are also common in Croatia.
  • Lagoon 50 & 51 – bigger platforms; many are chartered bareboat or with our skipper, and many others, the 51 especially, come with the charter company's own skipper or crew.
  • Lagoon 52 / 55 and larger – high-end Lagoon catamarans often configured as luxury crewed yachts; the motor version is on Lagoon power catamaran charter.

Each base may have a slightly different mix of Lagoon models and build years. When you send us an enquiry, we check each boat live for your dates and email you the ones that fit, with prices and key equipment.

Where You Can Charter a Lagoon Catamaran

Lagoon catamarans are present along the whole Croatian coast. The strongest concentrations are around Split and Trogir, but you will also find good fleets in Zadar and Sibenik, some in Istria and a smaller choice in Dubrovnik.

If you are planning to explore the Kornati area, start from Zadar or Sibenik. For Hvar, Brac and the central Dalmatian islands, Split and Trogir are the best starting points. If you dream about Mljet, Korcula and the southern route, Dubrovnik is ideal.

Lagoon Catamarans for Different Crew Types

One of the strengths of the Lagoon range is how flexible it is for different types of crews:

  • Families with children – wide decks, stern platforms and safe guardrails make it easy to move around. Cabins are usually similar in size so there are fewer arguments about “who gets the big cabin”.
  • Groups of friends – plenty of seating in cockpit and on the bow, good separation between cabins, and comfortable fridges for long evenings at anchor.
  • Couples looking for privacy – some Lagoon configurations offer an owner’s hull with a large cabin and bathroom, plus guest cabins on the other side.
  • Corporate or celebration trips – bigger Lagoon models have room for our skipper and cook in proper cabins without squeezing the guests.

If you are not sure which layout works best, tell us your crew structure in the enquiry form on Get a Quote. Each boat in the email shows its cabins and links to its page with the layout, so you can match cabins to your sleeping arrangements.

Bareboat, Skippered or Crewed Lagoon Charter

Lagoon catamarans in Croatia are available in all three charter formats:

  • Bareboat Lagoon charter – for skippers with the required licences and experience. You handle navigation and manoeuvring; our sailing guides cover routes and local tips. More about requirements in our guide Skippers Licenses and Certificates.
  • Skippered Lagoon charter – a good choice if you want to relax. A professional skipper takes care of the boat and safety, while you decide how involved you want to be – and you can still learn a bit of catamaran sailing.
  • Crewed Lagoon charter – selected larger Lagoons operate as fully crewed yachts with hostess and sometimes chef. This is the closest Lagoon experience to a small boutique hotel on the sea.

On a bareboat, our own skipper costs from 2.100 € a week, plus food, and always gets a real cabin, never the saloon – so use the crew cabin where the boat has one, or keep one guest cabin free for the skipper.

How Much Does a Lagoon Catamaran Cost?

Prices depend on model, build year, season and base marina. As a rough guide, smaller Lagoon catamarans start from the higher end of sailing yacht prices and go up considerably for the newest, best-equipped boats in high season; discounted weeks are collected on top deals.

To understand the full budget, combine this page with our pricing guides Charter Prices, Yacht Charter Cost Croatia and Full Cost Guide. They explain what is included in the base price, which extras you should expect (skipper, fuel, transit log, marinas) and how Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), usually 30–40 % of the charter fee, works on luxury crewed Lagoons.
