Plan it: Door-to-Door Cost of a Croatia Sailing Holiday

Every autumn, the charter companies publish next season's price lists. Most of them also publish an early-booking discount. It sounds simple. Book now, pay less. In practice there are a few conditions worth knowing before you choose a boat for summer 2027.

We want to be clear about one thing first. We own no boats. The charter companies own them, set their prices and decide their own discounts. Our site lists every charter boat lying in a Croatian marina, and never above the charter company's own price. So when an early-booking discount applies, it is the company's discount, and the figure you see on the boat card already reflects it.

That is also why we will not quote a percentage here. The discount varies from company to company and sometimes from boat to boat in the same fleet. The live figure sits on the boat card, and this newsletter's deal block carries the current numbers.

How the discounts work

An early-booking discount is a reduction on the charter company's list price for the week. It is usually tied to a date. Book and confirm before that date and the lower price holds.

A few patterns come up again and again:

  • Tiers. Some companies step the discount down over the winter. The earliest bookings get the most, and it shrinks as the months pass.
  • Payment terms. An early booking often asks for a larger first payment, or a second payment well before you sail. Check the deposit shown on the boat page before you commit.
  • Cancellation terms. These can be stricter on discounted bookings. Read them as carefully as the price.
  • Combining discounts. Some companies let an early-booking discount sit alongside others, such as a reduction for two weeks or for returning guests. Others do not. The company's terms decide.

When they end

There is no single deadline. Each company sets its own. As a rough guide, and it is only approximate, many early-booking terms run out somewhere between the end of the year and early spring. Some end sooner. A few run later on weeks that are slow to fill.

The more useful question is often not when the discount ends but when the boat goes. A catamaran out of Split or Trogir for a Saturday in late July can be booked long before any discount deadline. If you have fixed dates in the school holidays, the date that matters is the day someone else takes your boat.

Shoulder weeks behave differently. Late May, June and September have more boats free for longer. There the deadline itself is a fairer guide to when to decide.

Which boats get them

Not every boat carries an early-booking discount, and the size of it differs. What we tend to see:

  • Bareboats are where these discounts are most common. Most large fleets in marinas such as ACI Marina Split, Marina Kaštela and D-Marin Mandalina in Šibenik publish them.
  • New boats and popular catamarans sometimes carry a smaller discount or none. They sell without one.
  • Crewed yachts follow their own pricing. The charter company's crew comes with the boat, and the terms are set accordingly.
  • Last-minute boats are a separate thing. A late reduction on an unsold week is not the same as an early-booking discount, and you cannot plan around it.

If you want our own skipper or cook on a bareboat, they can be added for whole weeks. That is separate from the boat's price and its discount. If you plan to skipper yourself, the charter company checks your licence and VHF certificate at check-in, so have both ready.

A sensible way to decide

  • Fix your dates and your marina first. Changing either later can cost you the discount.
  • Compare a few boats of the size you need, not one.
  • Read the payment schedule and the cancellation terms alongside the price.
  • If your week is in July or August, do not wait for the deadline.

To see what is free for your dates, send a quote request through our boat search. You will get an email within minutes with the boats free for those dates, each checked live, then route ideas. The price on each boat card is the charter company's current price, early-booking discount included where it applies. If you have a question, reply and a person will answer.
