Plan it: Best Sailing Routes in Croatia, Day by Day
Yacht charters from Split run from mid-April to the end of October, and June or September is generally best to experience the area at lower crowd levels. Explore UNESCO-protected Diocletian’s Palace or stroll along narrow streets in its historic city center.
At ACI Marina Split, Marina Zenta, Marina Kaštela and the Trogir marinas there are yacht rental options available for skippered and bareboat motor boats for island hopping adventures with your Split Croatia yacht charter. It can offer plenty of sightseeing experiences as well as fine dining adventures.
1. Diocletian’s Palace
Roman Emperor Diocletian was mesmerized by the beauty of Split’s coastline over 1700 years ago and decided to construct his retirement complex there. Today, that city has blossomed into a bustling UNESCO World Heritage site that vibrates with life.
Traverse the narrow cobblestone streets, take in stunning Baroque and Venetian-influenced architecture, and visit jaw-dropping sights like the Cathedral of Saint Domnius – this area represents the heart of the city and should occupy most of your time!
After exploring the palace, don’t miss a visit to Diocletian’s cellars – these enormous, maze-like spaces would have been used for storage during his lifetime and now offer small shops and restaurants. Be sure to look up at the vaulted ceilings; particularly impressive are Diocletian’s looted black granite sphinxes from Egypt guarding the entrance to his mausoleum where he himself was laid to rest after his death around 311 AD.
2. Riva Seastrand
Riva Promenade should be included as part of any yacht charter vacation in Split. With its palm trees, fresh coastal breeze and picturesque view of Adriatic Sea, it provides the ideal place for relaxation and taking in local culture.
Your stay at ACI Split Marina provides you with an opportunity to discover Split’s historic center, featuring narrow alleyways paved in stone and impressive architecture that gives it its distinct character. Plus, this vibrant area provides excellent opportunities for shopping and dining!
Music enthusiasts should visit Split during the middle of summer as it hosts one of Europe’s premier EDM festivals – Ultra Music Festival. Book festival tickets well ahead, or visit Krka National Park nearby to take in some stunning natural landscapes of Croatia.
3. Korcula
From mid-April to October, Croatia’s sunny climate and warm sea make yacht charter trips from Split to Trogir an unforgettable experience for sea kayaking or snorkelling along its stunning coast.
Korcula, on the eastern side of the Adriatic, is a walled island town with beaches nearby – particularly Vela Pržina at Lumbarda, with gorgeous blue water that mesmerises visitors.
A day trip to Korčula is easiest by fast passenger catamaran from Split or Dubrovnik; by yacht it is about 50 nm from either, so make it a stop on a week's route rather than a day out. Our boat search lists every boat in a Croatian marina, bareboat or crewed; on a bareboat, bring your licence and VHF certificate – the charter company checks them at check-in.
4. Vis
Vis is an idyllic destination on any Croatia yacht charter itinerary, with a deep, sheltered bay, a 16th-century Franciscan monastery by the harbour and pebble coves for swimming and secluded beaches.
Vis stood in for the Greek island of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, filmed there in 2017 at bays such as Barjoška – and Stiniva and Srebrna on the south coast are reasons enough to sail round.
With a yacht charter from Split, you can experience a wealth of Dalmatian destinations. Explore sun-kissed Hvar, Marco Polo’s birthplace Korcula or dive into the crystal blue waters of legendary Vis. Alternatively you could island hop south towards Dubrovnik, or north to the Kornati Islands National Park and back – either way your sailing holiday from Split will be memorable!
